Elections
The City Clerk's Office, within the Administrative Services Department, administers city, county, state, and federal elections. City, county, school board, and federal elections are held in even-numbered years. 

Administrative election duties include, but are not limited to, recruiting and training election judges, managing precinct and polling locations, and managing election reports and information.

Register to Vote
To vote in any election in Minnesota, you must be:
  • A citizen of the United States
  • At least 18 years if age on election day
  • A resident of Minnesota for at least 20 days
  • Properly registered

Voter Registration
Are you registered?
If you have voted within the last four years and have not changed your name or address since that time, you do not need to re-register. You can visit the Minnesota Secretary of State website to determine whether you are registered to vote at your current address. 

How to Register
Eligible voters may register at their precinct's polling location on Election Day with one of the following authorized proof of residence:
  • A valid Minnesota driver's license or learner's permit (or receipt) showing a current address in that precinct.
  • A valid Minnesota ID (or receipt) showing a current address in that precinct. 
  • Prior registration in the same precinct with a former name or address shown on the roster. 
  • Notice of late registration sent by Hennepin County.
  • Tribal ID card that shows name, current address, signature, and photo.
  • A photo ID (MN driver's license or MN ID with former address; U.S. passport; U.S. military ID; MN student photo ID from a post-secondary institution; Tribal with former address bearing name, signature and picture; with current bill showing voter's name and current address (i.e. utility bill due within 30 days of the election; student fee statement; rent statement dated within 30 days of election day that itemizes utilities). 
How to Pre-Register
Eligible voters may also pre-register in advance to save time on Election Day by: 
  1. Visiting the Minnesota Secretary of State website and follow the instructions, or
  2. Printing, Completing, and Mailing a Minnesota Voter Registration Application
