Spring - Load Restrictions

Spring - Load Restrictions
Every spring, generally between mid-March and early-May, the city places vehicle load restrictions on all municipal streets. The load restriction is set at 4-tons per axle.

Why Load Restrictions?
During this period, the driving of heavy equipment on city streets can cause extensive damage to streets as frost is starting to leave the ground and it is softening. Heavy loads can cause the streets to buckle under the weight.

The City of Mound follows the State of Minnesota seasonal street load restrictions schedule.

Enforcement of Load Restrictions
The Orono Police Department and the Public Works Department aggressively enforce these load restrictions in the spring. Unless the road is marked otherwise, each city street is restricted to 4-tons per axle during this period.
